The story of Bella Boo isn't one of overnight success, thought it might have appeared as such for fans of modern, explorative dance music, who witnessed her international breakthrough in 2018, around the time of "Fire", her debut EP for influential Stockholm label Studio Barnhus.
For those involved with the weird and wonderful world of Swedish club culture over the last two decades, Bella Boo has steadily been there, as one of the most musically informed, crowd-pleasing and hardworking DJs on the scene, with her eclecticism and skills behind the decks leading to a residency on national Swedish radio along with sold-out club nights all over Scandinavia.
A massing heaps of experience and creative ideas over the years, it was only a matter of time before Bella's musical universe would manifest in the form of records, her intuitively virtuoso production style drawing as much inspiration from forward-thinking UK dance music as from sacred house music tradition and turn-of-the-century r'n'b - always vibrating with some mysterious frequency, never losing track of the groove.
Continued collaborations with the Studio Barnhus crew inevitably led to her 2019 debut album "Once Upon A Passion", resulting in an as-of-yet-constant club and festival tour and a Swedish Grammy nomination along with heaps of prestige media coverage, including glowing reviews from Pitchfork and Resident Advisor.
The album was quickly followed by releases on some of the world's top dance labels, with Gerd Janson's Running Back, Public Possession and Keinemusik all getting blessed by the Boo. All while, she's been regularly returning to the Studio Barnhus mothership, most recently on her "Looney Talks" EP, on which high-octane DJ sets at venues like Panorama Bar and Printworks influenced four of the most impressive club tracks heard in 2023.
Her upcoming sophomore album "DreamySpaceyBlue" marks a distinctive step forward in Bella's sound: An amalgamation of the etheric sounds on her debut album and the ruff and rugged dance tracks on her recent EP. The record arrives October 20 2023 via Studio Barnhus, where the moon is forever Boo.
