Rinse + FWD>> - Celebrating 15 years of Rinse
The 31st of July marks another Rinse Fm Birthday and to celebrate all roads lead to the super club Matter for Rinse + FWD. The night is set to be the biggest indoor event in London this summer with a host of performances from DJ’s who have been at the forefront of London underground music over the last 15 years. It has the potential to be a historic night, one that originates from the first FWD>> @ the END nightclub back on the 23rd of June in 2006, a pivotal moment especially for the genre of Dubstep.
It was the biggest underground night of the year and brought together the sounds of Dubstep and Grime on an equal footing. The night saw performances from Geeneus, Newham Generals, Skream, Digital Mystikz & Sgt. Pokes. Hatcha and Plastician all hosted by MC Crazy D (and that was just the main room).
It was a huge success and certainly helped to raise the platform for Dubstep, the stars of Rinse FM, and the attitudes of the 800+ attendees that were there on the first of a number of great nights to come. This night really helped to push the sounds of the underground to a more diverse audience. I remember the queues for this event went round the block and having to talk my way into the front of the queue by laying down some charm on the lady operating the guest list - it was well worth it as it saved me missing out on 2 hours of amazing music.
Since that very first event, the ties between Rinse FM and the FWD>> night have grown stronger, joining forces the two have became synonymous with one another. As a result the End Night Club played host to Rinse + FWD throughout 2007, the first of a number of events under that name in the capital that continued to combine the sounds of the underground past & present in a spectacular fashion up until the End’s closure in 2008.
What matters now is Matter, and with it only a few day’s away I hope you all have your tickets. If you’ve never been before, expect something truly different. With a capacity of 2600 people here’s just a couple facts:
1) Matter is layered over three levels, with a dramatic triple-height void over the main 100sqm dance floor and is a 3,400sqm purpose-built club.
2) It has a total of three dance floors and four bars.
3) A 25m long steel bridge with a raked steel mesh connects the top-level dance floor to the bar at the second floor level and provides a dramatic view through the triple height space to the main body-kinetic dance floor!
4) Kinetic dance floor??? What’s this you say? To save on all the tech talk I’ll sum it up like this - the main dance floor has been designed to vibrate. It is said to feel like your standing over a mini earthquake, and the size of that earthquake is intensified by the amount of low-level frequencies that come out of the venues speakers… Bring on the BASS!!!
